Richard has spent most of his working career in the South African financial markets industry. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, where he audited several financial institutions, Richard joined the Bank of Lisbon and South Africa (now Mercantile Bank Limited) as their Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Five years later he moved to the Sechold group and six years later to The South African Futures Exchange (SAFEX) in both cases as their CFO. In 2001, when SAFEX was bought by the JSE Richard decided to leave the corporate world and move into financial planning as a complimentary field to his accounting and tax practice. He joined API Johannesburg in 2001 and practices his financial planning through Richplan Financial Services, and he has recently been joined by his daughter Tiffany. Apart from holding a CA (SA), Richard qualified as a Certified Financial Planner, completing a Higher Diploma in Financial Planning, at the University of the Free State.
